How to get the most out of your plan
Every study you upload will be reviewed and feedback will be given on the study quality, interpretation and clinical application. Advice will be given on how you can improve and learn from your scan. The feedback you receive can go toward a formal accreditation. Once you have registered we will reach out via email to arrange supervisory logistics. If you register for the month to month or annual plan you can upload up to 10 studies every 30 days. It is important that you upload all 10 studies because unused slots do not roll over to the next month.
To ensure you get the most of your membership please note the following:
Study completeness
- Each study should aim for completeness and comprehensiveness in line with the accreditation you are working toward
- Patient factors can limit the acquisition of a complete study but try and aim for at least two thirds of what is required in all instances
- For those studies requiring measurements please upload where possible
Learner interpretation submission
- Your interpretation and clinical application is just as important as the images you acquire. Please include this when uploading and state how reliable you feel the images are (e.g. good, okay poor etc.).
Accreditation suitability
- Once you have uploaded your study (incl. interpretation) it will be reviewed within 7 days with feedback given on image quality and interpretation. This will be in a formal report format.
- The feedback report will state whether the study is suitable to be used toward an accreditation such as FUSIC or FAMUS. This is based on the comprehensiveness of the uploaded images, study quality and interpretation
How to Export Images from an Ultrasound Machine
Getting your ultrasound images off the machine can be daunting. The following page should help you through this process.
Although all machines you may encounter will have different user interfaces, all follow the same process.
Each time you scan a patient
The following is a set of instructions that you can follow each time you scan a patient. It is important that you ensure any of your actions are compliant with local GDPR and hospital privacy policies. Refer to our privacy policy for further details.
1
Save your images
a.
Register your patient on the machine
a.
Save videos (loops) of the desired anatomy / pathology
a.
Once you have completed the study – press end study or finish
2
Insert external hard drive or external storage device
3
Review the images you have acquired for the study
4
Highlight or select the images you want to export
a.
Some machines may prompt you to export the study from the review page (previous step #3)
5
Export the images in a JPEG, AVI, MP4 format
6
Upload to our platform
There are some older ultrasound machines that cannot export to one of the above formats. These are a rarity but not entirely uncommon, particularly in the UK’s NHS. After you export your images from the machine you may find the files will not open on your computer. In these instances, it is likely they are in DICOM format which is an old school radiology format for images. Before you upload to our server you need to convert the images. We suggest you use a free converter such as MicroDicom or Horos. Any issues with this please reach out to us.
General Advice
If you intend to upload the study to our platform, please ensure there is no patient identifiable data on the studies. It is important that you consider this before you export your study as studies cannot truly be anonymous after export. There are two way you can do this:
Single Blinded
No traceable details entered the machine – pseudo name known to you
No Blinding
Use of the anonymisation function on the machine at export – some machines allow you to export images with no name in the screen
All image export and anonymisation should be done in compliance with your hospitals policies.
Chelsea MedEd Partners provides guidance for educational use only and cannot accept liability for how images are reported or handled within your workplace. We take steps in compliance with GDPR to reduce the risk of identifiable information transmission. Please refer to our privacy policy for further details.
